Services and Modalities offered by Textured Motion include (some modalities are covered by insurance): Trigger Point Therapy is a subset of neuromuscular therapy, which examines and treats muscles and muscle attachments in layers from superficial to deep, as well as ligaments and connective tissues. Trigger points are accumulations of waste products around a nerve receptor. Often times they feel like nodules or taut bands of fibers within the soft tissues. Trigger points form in muscles which have been overused or injured due to an accident or surgery. Common characteristics are increased muscle tension and muscle shortening. Increased muscle tension is the primary side-effect of trigger points and pain is the most common secondary effect. Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) is a thorough program of recovery from acute and chronic pain syndromes which utilizes specific massage practices (or) techniques, flexibility, stretching, and home care with the goal being to assist with eliminating neuromuscular pain patterns. This specific and scientific approach to muscular pain relief helps to bring about balance between the musculoskeletal and nervous system. NMT enhances the function of joints, muscles and biomechanics (movement) and it releases endorphins, the body's own natural pain killers. Sports Massage is typically used before, during, and after athletic events. The purpose of the massage is to prepare the athlete for peak performance; to drain away fatigue, reduce and relieve swelling, increase flexibility, as to prevent injuries. The main purpose of sports massage therapy is to help alleviate the stress and tension that builds up in the body’s soft tissues during physical activity. Where minor injuries and lesions occur due to overexertion and/or overuse, massage can break them down quickly and effectively. Lymphatic Drainage enables practitioners to detect the specific rhythm, direction, depth, and quality of the lymph flow anywhere in the body. Once determined, they can assess overall circulation and establish the best alternate pathways for draining body-fluid stagnations. Therapists work with flat hands, using all the fingers to simulate gentle, specific wave-like movements. These subtle manual maneuvers activate lymph and interstitial fluid circulation as well as stimulate the functioning of the immune and parasympathetic nervous systems. Deep Tissue Massage is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fibers of the muscles, tendons, and fascia. Deep tissue massage helps to break up and eliminate scar tissue, and is usually focused on specific areas. Phenomenal Touch Massage is described by some as having qualities of Watsu (water massage), Trager and Thai massage combined with Deep Tissue Work. Phenomenal Touch is truly unique, exceptional, and deeply rewarding to both those who receive and give this three-dimensional dance. While the overall qualities of warmth and heat have long been associated with comfort and relaxation, Heat Therapy goes a step further and can provide both pain relief and healing benefits for many types of pain. Heat Therapy dilates the blood vessels of the muscles. This process increases the flow of oxygen and nutrients to the muscles, helping to heal the damaged tissue. Heat stimulates the sensory receptors in the skin, which means that applying heat to a specific area (i.e. lower back) will decrease transmissions of pain signals to the brain and partially relieve the discomfort. Heat application also facilitates stretching the soft tissues, including muscles, connective tissue, and adhesions. Consequently, with heat therapy, there will be a decrease in stiffness as well as injury, with an increase in flexibility and overall feeling of comfort. |
